Over 30 years ago, a young single mother from Nicaragua arrived in Oakland, carrying little more than her dreams and her determination to create a better future for her four children—one of whom was born right here in Oakland. Her name is Angela Howell, and she began her journey by caring for children in her home, offering nanny shares that soon became known for more than just child care. With her warm heart and nurturing spirit, she built a safe haven where children not only thrived but also learned Spanish through joyful play, songs, and stories.

Families trusted her because they could see the love she poured into everything she did. Two particular families were so inspired by her dedication that they encouraged her to take the next step—to turn her passion into a preschool where more children could benefit from her care and vision. And so, Monte Tavor Child Care and Preschool was born.
